Should I choose a rollator or a standard walker?

A standard walker has no wheels or two front wheels, and you lift or slide it with each step. It is built to take your weight, which is why it is common after hip or knee surgery. A rollator rolls on all its wheels and stops with hand brakes. Many have a seat.

A rollator helps with balance and stamina but is not made for leaning your full weight on. If you need to put weight through your arms, ask a physiotherapist or occupational therapist. Compare models in our Drive rollator guide.

How do I check size and fit?

  • Handle height: the listing gives an adjustable range, for example 28 to 33 in for a junior model.
  • Seat height: the Nitro seat is 20.5 in off the floor.
  • Wheel size: 10-inch front wheels suit sidewalks, and smaller wheels suit indoor use.
  • Weight capacity: heavy duty models list 450 lb, and bariatric models 500 lb.
  • Folded size: check it against your car trunk.

A physiotherapist or occupational therapist can set the handle height for you.

What about canes, crutches and transport chairs?

Crutches are listed by height range, with junior, child and adult sizes, and push-button heights. Check the range against your height. Lightweight transport chairs are pushed by a caregiver and fold for storage.

Accessories such as walker ski glides, replacement wheels and platform attachments are also listed. For bathroom and daily help, see bathroom safety equipment and daily living aids.

Questions shoppers ask

What is the difference between a walker and a rollator?

A walker is lifted or slid and takes your weight. A rollator rolls on wheels, has hand brakes and often a seat, and helps with balance. If you lean heavily, ask a physiotherapist which suits you.

How do I set the handle height?

Set the grips so your elbows are slightly bent when your hands rest on them. A physiotherapist, occupational therapist or pharmacist can check the setting and show you how to adjust it.

Will a rollator fit in my car?

Many fold for storage. Some Drive models, such as the Explore and Sidekick, fold side to side to fit a car trunk. Compare the folded dimensions on the listing before you order.

Do you carry heavy duty and bariatric models?

Yes. Drive heavy duty and bariatric walkers and rollators are listed with their weight capacity, for example 450 lb or 500 lb. Check the number on the listing before you order.
