Makers label products light, moderate, heavy or overnight, but each defines the words differently. Look for printed figures on the product page and compare like with like.
Higher absorbency is not always the better choice, because a bulkier product can feel less comfortable and may not fit as well. Read is higher absorbency always better before you buy, and start with a small pack so you can trial a new brand or level.
Pads are sized by length and shape, not by waist. Regular, long and extra long are each maker's own labels, so check the length in inches or centimetres on the product page. Our pad size guide explains coverage and shapes.
Underwear and briefs are sized by waist and hips. Measure both, use the larger number and compare it with the brand chart. See how to measure waist and hips.
No. A liner is a thin, narrow strip for the smallest leaks. A pad is longer and thicker, with a deeper core that holds more. Pads come in several lengths and absorbency levels, including overnight versions.
Pads and guards are shaped differently for men and women. Men often use contoured guards or shields, while women use longer pads. Protective underwear and briefs come in unisex and gender-specific versions.
Count how many you use in a typical day, multiply by 30, then add a small buffer. Our guide on how many pads or briefs you need per month walks through the arithmetic with examples.
Opened personal-care items cannot be returned. To avoid waste, start with a small pack when you try a new brand, style or size, and move up to a larger pack once you know it fits.
